Review by Nathan Eames

The album Untitled by Chico Science E Cordel Do Fogo Encantado is a masterpiece of Brazilian music. Released in 1998, the album is a fusion of traditional Brazilian rhythms and modern electronic sounds that create an innovative and unique sound. The band's leader, Chico Science, was a pioneer of the Manguebeat movement, which blended traditional rhythms from the northeast of Brazil with rock and hip-hop.

The album features ten tracks that showcase the band's eclectic style. The opening track, "Rios, Pontes E Overdrives," sets the tone for the album with its energetic blend of percussion, guitar, and electronic beats. The lyrics address social and political issues, and the band's passion and energy are palpable.

Another standout track is "Manguetown," which is a tribute to the band's hometown of Recife, a city known for its vibrant music scene. The track features a catchy melody and lyrics that celebrate the city's cultural diversity.

The album's title, Untitled, reflects the band's desire to break free from traditional musical conventions and create something new and innovative. The result is an album that is both timeless and ahead of its time, and it continues to influence Brazilian music to this day.

About Chico Science E Cordel Do Fogo Encantado

Born 03-13-1966. Died 02-02-1997. The front man for the band and main man of the Mangue Beat movement from Pernambuco (Northeast Brazil) had his career precociously aborted by a car crash. Chico Science was engaged in hip hop and break dance groups in the early 80s. By the end of that decade, he joined bands like Orla Orbe and Loustal, who drew their inspiration from soul, funk and hip hop. The fusion with Northeastern rhythms, especially maracatu, came in 1991, when Science met with rhythmic group Lamento Negro in the outskirts of the town of Olinda. He proceeded to mix up percussive beats with the sounds of his old group, so as to form Nação Zumbi. As a band, CSNZ started performing in Recife (state capital) and Olinda, generating the Mangue Beat "movement". In 1993, on a quick tour around São Paulo and Belo Horizonte, he managed to attract media attention. The first album, "Da Lama ao Caos
