Review by Chris Kearney

Concertos For Harpsichord Strings by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, performed by Alexander Cattarino and the Slovak Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Bohdan Warchal, is a captivating album that showcases the composer's unique style and the virtuosity of the musicians.

The album features four concertos, each with their own distinct character and mood. The first concerto in D minor is a dramatic and intense piece that showcases Cattarino's impressive technical abilities on the harpsichord. The second concerto in B-flat major is a more lyrical and playful piece, with the strings and harpsichord trading off melodies and harmonies in a delightful dance.

The third concerto in C major is perhaps the most well-known of the four, with its bright and joyful melodies and intricate counterpoint. The final concerto in G major is a more subdued piece, with a melancholic opening movement that gradually builds to a lively and energetic finale.

Throughout the album, Cattarino and the Slovak Chamber Orchestra demonstrate a deep understanding of Bach's music, bringing out the nuances and subtleties of each piece. Warchal's direction is sensitive and nuanced, allowing the musicians to shine while maintaining a cohesive ensemble sound.
