Review by Wayne Narruhn

Winchester In Apple Blossom Time Volume IV by Blossom Dearie is a delightful jazz album that showcases the singer's unique vocal style and musical talent. The album features a mix of original songs and covers, all of which are infused with Dearie's signature charm and wit.

The opening track, "Tea for Two," sets the tone for the album with its playful melody and Dearie's light, airy vocals. Other standout tracks include "I'm Hip," a humorous take on the Beat Generation, and "L'Etang," a beautiful French ballad.

Throughout the album, Dearie is accompanied by a talented group of musicians who provide a perfect backdrop for her vocals. The piano, bass, and drums are all expertly played, creating a cohesive and enjoyable listening experience.

Comments

Blossom had a brother named Barney who was still living when she died Feb. 2009. I came across her on youtube, never heard her all the years I listened to smooth jazz radio going back to the mid-eighties. Love her sweet soprano voice. She had Irish/Swedish ancestery&she was born when various fruit trees were blossoming in New York. She seemed to like New York,France&England. She seemed to like the change of seasons&cool damp weather. She was married to a Bobby Jasper, jazz musician 1956-1963.
I went to a show of her's at Danny's Skylight Room in NYC many years ago. A lot of fun. Wonderful performer with a charming voice and personality. Prior to the show, I was at the bar having a drink and eating peanuts and I turned to my right and there she was. She looked at me, smiled, and said "Hi!" Of course, I said 'Hi' in return and then she left to go do her show. I loved that moment as well as the show. Very sweet and funny. She had a way of making something rather mundane into something rather special. And listening to this song (which she didn't sing that night) reminds me of her in so many good ways. I think she was a very talented and sweet person. I feel sad I can't meet her again.
