My band were doing an afternoon sound check for a gig at the Astor Theatre in St Kilda 1973. A very excited Bill Putt ran in with a box full of albums. They arrived hot off the press and were handed out enthusiastically. I had heard all the tracks numerous times live but this was the first inkling of the actual album.
The next day I pulled the album from its pristine cover and had a listen.
I was flummoxed.......a production the likes of which I had never heard before.
It had a Sydney "EMI Studios" sound about it. In later years Dragon exhibited the same production sound.
After having heard the material live so many times it took some time for me to get a grip on the new arrangements.
Numerous listenings later and having memorized all the words, I was convinced. This was the best Australian album I had ever heard.
Today it remains one of my favourite albums and Ariel one of my favourite bands.
Roll that Fanta bottle down the aisle.....................listen to the whole album and tell me I'm wrong.
Every track is superb.
