Anna Homler's performances synthesize music, spoken word, installation and intermedia into alternative languages that extend the possibilities of meaning and communication. With a sensibility that is both ancient and post-modern, Ms Homler blurs the line between words and music. Since 1982, she has collaborated with in America with composers and musicians Steve Moshier, David Moss and Ethan James. Better acknowledged in Europe than her home city of Los Angeles, she has collaborated there with such artists as Viola Kramer, the Voices of Kwahn, Axel Otto, Frank Schulte, Geert Waegeman and Pavel Fajt. She has performed throughout Europe and the U.S., including appearances at Recommended Records in London; PS 122, The Kitchen, Dixon Place and the Poetry Project in New York; and major festivals, clubs and concert halls throughout Europe, in Czechoslovakia, Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, Sardinia, Belgium and France. Highlighting her recent work is the performance/installation Pharmacia Poetica, which examines the symbolic and tonal qualities of words and objects. Having traveled worldwide as part of the exhibition 40 Years of California Assemblage, it has been shown at Gracie Mansion, New York; Center for Contemporary Arts, Santa Fe; Nonsequitar Gallery, Albuquerque; Gallery 400, Chicago; and galleries in The Netherlands and Switzerland.
