Review by Elettra Pellanda

New Wind is the eighth studio album by the American punk rock band 7 Seconds, released in 1986. The album is considered a classic in the punk rock genre, with its fast-paced, energetic songs and socially conscious lyrics.

The album kicks off with the title track, "New Wind," which sets the tone for the rest of the album with its catchy guitar riffs and powerful vocals. The lyrics touch on themes of personal growth and change, encouraging listeners to embrace new experiences and perspectives.

Other standout tracks include "Somebody Help Me Scream," which addresses issues of police brutality and violence, and "Not Just Boys Fun," a feminist anthem that challenges gender stereotypes in punk rock.

Comments

Love 7Seconds from Bill Insted
I caught "Put These Words to Music" on KSPC (Pomona College) in 1986, and fortunately I had hit "play and record" on the cassette tape, thus allowing for repeated listens on a bulky bright yellow Sony walkman. A few years later I finally got around to buying the LP that gave birth to that song and I was immediately overcome by the power pop magic of Kevin Seconds and his bandmates. There are many classic cuts on New Wind from the poppy opener "The Night Away" to the uplifting frustration of "Somebody Help Me Scream", the propulsive "New Wind" and the U2-meets-Loverboy "The Inside". 30 years later, I "Still Believe" that "Put These Words to Music" is one of the most criminally underrated songs from the 1980s, and this might be because New Wind was a power pop/alternative album from a hardcore band, just like when Bob Dylan went electric.
7 SECONDS à old school legend for me (very very great). I was 54years old school, that forever... 7 SECONDS..
I am a total by-product of this album and 7 Seconds in general. But this album was the first punk album that showed vulnerability in the lyrics that i had and it had a huge impact and influence on me back in 87 at 12 yrs old.
This is so cool.
after only listening to The Crew, i finally ventured passed that album and have to say i really like this one and the direction it went.
It's a fucking Masterpiece, and that's all there is to itway ahead of everyones time, his voice is ridiculous,I mean for real
It's 2022 and I'm going to go see these guys on Thursday.
People criticize OuT tHE sHIZZY...and the sound they got with that album is amazing!!!! they've never sounded better!!!!!
Grown Apart best song on the album for me, every hardcore bassist should learn this one. Cllllll-assssss-sick
I just ordered this smash hit platinum selling album!
U2 influenced album
I always see these guys named among the hardcore greats. I've given them a few listens over the years, but I've never really understood the appeal. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
