Vision Bleak's album Set Sail To Mystery is a haunting and atmospheric journey through the darker realms of metal. The band's signature blend of gothic and symphonic metal is on full display here, with lush orchestrations, choral vocals, and thunderous guitar riffs creating a sense of epic grandeur.
The album's opening track, "A Curse of the Grandest Kind," sets the tone perfectly, with its ominous choir and swirling strings building to a crushing climax. From there, the band takes the listener on a wild ride through tales of pirates, ghosts, and otherworldly horrors.
Highlights include the bombastic "The Kindred of the Sunset," the mournful ballad "By the Misery of Fate He Was Haunted," and the epic title track, which features guest vocals from none other than Attila Csihar of Mayhem fame.
Throughout the album, Vision Bleak's musicianship is top-notch, with each member contributing to the overall atmosphere and texture of the music. The production is also excellent, with a clear and powerful sound that allows every instrument and vocal to shine.

Set sailing to discover new frontiers? Absolutely not, as with Set Sail to Mystery The Vision Bleak continue to deliver their pseudo-Gothic Thrash/Classic Metal with plenty of cliches and very few substance. "I Dined with the Swans" features dissonant piano touches that recall some experiments made by Bethlehem, but the rest of the album includes the low guitar riffing and the Symphonic Black keyboard chords of the past without altering anything.Highlights: "I Dined with the Swans".
It's really strange: such a fine, intelligent song gets relatively little attention over so many years, while even a very weak Rammstein song gets millions of clicks and likes within a few days.

I totally love The Vision Bleak. That epic music and lyrics inspired by H.P. Lovecraft, Lord Byron and E.A. Poe sends shivers down my spine. :D
