Review by Gretchen Stahlman

Tommy Dorsey and His Orchestra Featuring Jimmy Dorsey's "Sentimental and Swinging" album is a masterful blend of big band and swing music. With Tommy's smooth trombone playing and Jimmy's soaring saxophone solos, the album is a tour-de-force of musical talent. The album features a mix of classic standards and original compositions, all arranged with the precision and flair that made the Dorsey brothers famous. From the upbeat swing of "Opus One" to the tender balladry of "Stardust," the album showcases the versatility and virtuosity of the Dorsey brothers and their orchestra. The album is a must-have for any fan of big band and swing music, and a testament to the enduring legacy of the Dorsey brothers.

About Tommy Dorsey And His Orchestra Featuring Jimmy Dorsey

Orchestra under the leading of Tommy Dorsey, formed in 1935 and disbanded a first time in 1946. By late 1946, the band business was indeed having problems. In December 1946, some members of the band (including Tommy Dorsey) were calling it quits. However, less than two years later, he formed an orchestra with exactly the same name (Tommy Dorsey and his orchestra), but with different members. Dorsey's orchestra was known primarily for its renderings of ballads at dance tempos, frequently with singers such as Jack Leonard and Frank Sinatra.
