Review by William Neelankavil

Organ Sensation by Liszt, Vierne, Guilmant, Rheinberger Felix Hell is a stunning album that showcases the immense talent of the virtuoso organist Felix Hell. The album features a selection of pieces by some of the most renowned composers in the organ repertoire, including Franz Liszt, Louis Vierne, Alexandre Guilmant, and Josef Rheinberger.

From the first notes of the album, it is clear that Felix Hell is a master of his craft. His playing is precise, powerful, and deeply expressive, bringing out the full range of colors and textures of the organ. Each piece on the album is a tour de force of technical skill and musical sensitivity, from the thundering chords of Liszt's Prelude and Fugue on B-A-C-H to the delicate, ethereal beauty of Vierne's Clair de Lune.

One of the standout tracks on the album is Guilmant's Sonata No. 1 in D minor, which showcases Felix Hell's ability to convey the emotional depth and complexity of the music. The piece moves seamlessly from moments of grandeur and majesty to passages of quiet introspection, each one rendered with exquisite precision and sensitivity.

Born: October 22, 1811, Doborján, Austria-Hungary (present-day Raiding, Austria). Died: July 31, 1886, Bayreuth, Germany. Franz Liszt was a Hungarian composer, virtuoso pianist, conductor, music teacher, arranger, organist, philanthropist, author, nationalist and a Franciscan tertiary. He was a renowned performer throughout Europe, noted especially for his showmanship and great skill with the piano. To this day, he is considered by some to have been the greatest pianist in history. Liszt's musical invention went into territories which were then almost unexplored, in particular as regards harmonic research, as emerges from the late piano works, which led him to anticipate fragments of harmonies from the early twentieth century. His preference for program music is testified by the numerous symphonic poems he composed. Father-in-law to .
