Review by Izmy Permata Hayati

Lady In The Dark, released in 1950, is a timeless masterpiece that showcases the genius of composer Kurt Weill and the incredible vocal talents of Risë Stevens, Adolph Green, and John Reardon. This album is a must-have for any fan of musical theater or classical music.

The album is a recording of the original Broadway production of Lady In The Dark, which tells the story of a successful magazine editor named Liza Elliott, played by Stevens. The music is a mix of classical, jazz, and musical theater styles, with each song perfectly capturing the mood and emotion of the scene it accompanies.

Stevens delivers a powerhouse performance as Liza, with her stunning voice and impeccable timing bringing the character to life. Green and Reardon also shine in their roles, bringing humor and heart to the production.

One of the standout tracks is "My Ship," a hauntingly beautiful ballad that showcases Weill's mastery of melody and Stevens' stunning vocal range. Another highlight is "The Saga of Jenny," a witty and irreverent song that perfectly captures Liza's conflicted feelings about her own success.
