Joe Farrell Quartet - Joe Farrell Quartet

Review by Vanessa R

The Joe Farrell Quartet's self-titled album is a must-listen for jazz enthusiasts. Released in 1970, the album features Joe Farrell on tenor saxophone and flute, Chick Corea on piano, Dave Holland on bass, and Jack DeJohnette on drums.

The album starts with "Follow Your Heart," a groovy tune that showcases the quartet's chemistry and Farrell's virtuosity on the tenor saxophone. The quartet's improvisations complement each other perfectly, creating a sound that is both energetic and soulful.

The album also features Farrell's flute playing, which is showcased on tracks like "Collage for Polly" and "In the Truth." Farrell's flute playing is delicate and lyrical, and he uses it to create an ethereal atmosphere that is both calming and introspective.

The quartet's rendition of Miles Davis' "Prince of Darkness" is a standout track on the album. The quartet's interpretation of the classic tune is fresh and inventive, and it highlights each member's individual talent.

a great pleasure hear everyday, one of the best albuns ever played and sound engineered...
I've been getting into this under rated player who left us too soon. It's also interesting to hear that he played with Andrew Hill, no mean feat since his compositions would be a challenge for any player!
It's great! Thanks a lot!! From Brazil!!!
