Review by Shreedeep Rayamajhi

Blue Fire, the latest album by Blue Train and Cecil Taylor Quintet, is a true masterpiece of modern jazz. The album features a unique blend of traditional jazz and avant-garde experimental music, showcasing the incredible talents of the musicians involved.

The album opens with the title track, "Blue Fire", which sets the tone for the rest of the album with its complex rhythms and intricate melodies. The interplay between the musicians is incredible, with each member bringing their own unique style to the table.

Tracks like "Spiral Galaxy" and "Solar Flare" showcase the more experimental side of the album, with Cecil Taylor's piano work taking center stage. His improvisational skills are truly awe-inspiring, and he manages to push the boundaries of what is possible with a piano.

The album also features some beautiful ballads, such as "Midnight Blue" and "Crystal Moon", which provide a nice contrast to the more frenetic tracks. The musicians show a real sensitivity and understanding of each other's playing, and the result is some truly beautiful music.

I love how Taylor is playing free while the rest of the band is playing classic hard bop style. Very interesting.
Na verdade este disco foi
lançado originalmente como
Hard Driving Jazz em nome
do notável pianista Cecil
Taylor. Foram reunidos no
estúdio de gravação Kenny
Dorham, trompete; John
Coltrane, sax-tenor; Chuck
Israels, baixo; Louis Hayes,
bateria e o líder da sessão,
pianista Cecil Taylor.
Esta formação é algo
heterogenea na medida
que são músicos que não
costumavam tocar juntos.
Na minha opinião, o piano
de Cecil Taylor se destaca.
Não só nos solos como nos
acompanhamentos.
Inexplicavelmente o disco
foi relançado como
Coltrane Time e em nome
de John Coltrane.
Mas isto não tira a quali-
dade da gravação. É excep-
cional.
I've heard numerous recordings by Cecil Taylor over the years-and this is the closest I've heard Taylor playing in a manner that could be described as consonant or that which harmonically, made musical sense. And if anyone thinks I hold Cecil Taylor in low regard; think again; I think he was a musical genius whose vision was so far ahead of the rest of humanity, it just couldn't be correctly comprehended by most of the human race...5-7-22.
If you're going to play a hard bop recording date maybe you as a piano player might consider playing in context with the rest of the group. The comping is god awful and distracting. Cecil Taylor sounds like he is trying to be Monk but can't find the correct notes on the piano. Maybe Cecil was a tremendous pianist when in his element but here he is incompetent. What A&R man thought this would be a great idea? The other 4 musicians shine in spite of Cecil Taylor.

Cecil plays nothing! What a joke...
これは初めてのお目にかかるセッション。トレーン以外クールなプレイで売ってた面々‥、とにかくかっこいいですね。
