  • About Me: I am who I am, but not at all what I will be, thanks to my Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, who is and always will be my greatest Hero! (Ephesians 2:8-10 and Philippians 1:6) I began writing music at the age of twelve. I was a church musician for over 20 years, until my stroke in January 1999, which left me paralyzed on my right side. Now no longer able to play piano, organ, and keyboard, I now enjoy writing music exclusively. I especially enjoy giving well known hymns new melody lines that I feel better conveys the message of the words. I have always heard music in words, and feel that hymns come more alive when the music supports the message of the text. I believe music can both promote and be worship, as well as minister to people's souls. You can learn more about my music at http://www.NewHeartMusic.net. I studied piano as a child and continued studying piano and pipe organ at the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music. I received a BA in Biblical Studies and Christian Education from Wheaton College, and a MA from Wheaton Graduate School in the area of Christian Leadership, concentrating in Christian Ministries, Interpersonal Communications, and Missions (Cross-Cultural Communications and Management of the Christian Organization) with an Hispanic emphasis. I have also served churches as Lay Pastor and Preacher, Worship Director, Choir Director, Director of Missions and Outreach, organist, pianist, keyboardist, and teacher. Most recently, I have served in the music ministry and sang in the choir for over 15+ years at Salem First Church of the Nazarene. I currently serve as a Member-at-Large Emeritus and am a past Dean of the Salem, Oregon Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. In addition to my musical pursuits, I co-lead a Stroke Survivors & Caregivers Support Group through the Salem Hospital; I'm a retired member of the Disability Services Advisory Council of Northwest Seniors & Disability Services in Salem, Oregon; and am a member of the Home-bound Visitation Ministry and the Pastoral Care Prayer Ministry at Salem First Church of the Nazarene. I've also been a greeter at the main entrance for our church. I just finished writing a book entitled, "FROM FEAR TO LOVE: THE PROCESS OF SALVATION - How to Really Live and Love Through Moving Away from a Spirit of Fear Towards the Spirit of Love." It is available for $16.95 through Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Christian bookstores, and elsewhere as well as in Ebook format (PDF Document) for $15.00 through Outskirts Press, Inc. at this website: http://outskirtspress.com/fromfeartolove. Numerous health issues have been an ongoing problem for me. When I was 45, I suffered 3 heart attacks. Then, at age 47, I suffered the first of 3 major strokes. It was during these times of suffering and trying to recover that my faith became strengthened and, with God's help, I persevered. Having been a diabetic for decades, I finally in the last year was able to address that disease, lose a lot of weight, and finally beat the disease, and I no longer need to take any drugs or medicines. That is just part of the story behind the photo of me wearing a black tee shirt proclaiming that fact. You can see it in my Photo Gallery. Most of my sibs and cousins in my generation died between 45-50, and I am almost 64! God is so good! I have been married to my one and only wife and caregiver, Sharon, since August 2, 1980. She is a very talented pianist, flautist, and sings a strong alto. She also owns two businesses: "Sharon's Sweep 'n' Shine," specializing in deep-cleaning and housekeeping, and "Evergreen Enterprises Unlimited," which is an international distribution company for XanGo (TM) Mangosteen Products, all of which are category creators and have many decades of solid medical and scientific laboratory research findings behind them supporting the many healthful benefits of the mangosteen fruit, on which these produts are based. You can learn more at her website at http://www.MyMangosteen.com/swerd. Together, the Lord has blessed Sharon and me with four children: 2 boys (Shawn Nathan and Steve Andrew) and 2 girls (Sarah Marie and Shanna Ruth), and 4 grandchildren (Zackery Michael, Nathan Corban, Corban Daniel, and Alisha Whitney - all of whom belong to Shawn and Christena). Their whole family have moved permanently to Slovenia where they are serving as full-time missionaries. Sarah's husband is Lewis Reinhardt and they have one daughter, our fifth grandchild, Halley Jean, our sixth grandchild, their son, Raymond (Ray) James, and a granddaughter (unnamed at present) due around July 4, 2015, which will be our 10th grandchild . Our son Steve is married to Jordan and she came with a son, Levi, and then they added a daughter, Avaya, and a son, Ivan, representing our seventh, eighth, and soon to be our ninth grandchild. Sharon and I are very proud of each of our kids. They each are so very talented and serve our Lord Jesus Christ.
