Doo-wop to vocal pop group from Brooklyn, New York City, USA.
Formed in 1955 by . The original band included , but it was not until Medress reassembled the group in 1960, with brothers Phil and Mitch Margo and lead vocalist , that they really hit the big time. By 1967 they had scored nine charting records (including the number one smash hit 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight'), as well as having written, produced, and sung literally hundreds of recordings. The group's versatility reached its apex when they signed with Warner Bros where they recorded two albums 'It's A Happening World' and 'Intercourse'. But with no chart action from the group in 1968, Warner Bros. rejected the second album, which The Tokens then released independently.
