Review by Мария Загаринская

Srdela Makarska's album Souvenire iz Podgore has received critical acclaim for its unique blend of traditional Croatian folk music with contemporary sounds. The album features Makarska's soulful vocals accompanied by acoustic guitar, accordion, and tamburica, creating a rich and vibrant musical experience.

The album's title, Souvenire iz Podgore, refers to Makarska's hometown, a small fishing village on the Adriatic coast of Croatia. The songs on the album capture the essence of the village, its people, and their way of life. Makarska's lyrics are poetic and nostalgic, painting vivid pictures of the sea, the mountains, and the people who call Podgore home.

One notable track on the album is "More," a hauntingly beautiful ballad about the sea. Makarska's vocals soar over the gentle guitar melody, evoking the vastness and mystery of the ocean. Another standout track is "Moj Dida," a tribute to Makarska's grandfather, who was a fisherman. The song is a touching tribute to the hardworking men and women who make their living from the sea.

Notes

  • Second issue with added group name »SRDELA« MAKARSKA on centre labels that had been omitted on first issue. Disc comes in gatefold cover without seams - 36cmX18cm paper sheet, printed on one side and folded in the middle, in plastic protecting sleeve.
  • The first word in title is an awkward try to bring this record closer to the international customers, the title is neither Serbo-Croatian nor of any other language, correctly it should be: "Suvenir iz Podgore" or "Suveniri iz Podgore" meaning: "Souvenir(s) from Podgora (a small town on the Adriatic coast)".
  • Tracks A2 and B2 performed a cappella.
