Ray Woolf was born in Dagenham, Essex, in 1944 and the Woolf family came to New Zealand in 1962. Within a month, the ambitious singer came to the attention of Eldred Stebbing of Zodiac Records and began his New Zealand Recording career.
He performed with a series of garage bands during the 1960s but at the end of the decade mutated into an all round entertainer with a big TV presence.
In 2007 he recorded an album of Jazz standards under the supervision of Roger Fox, whom he also toured with as 'The Fox and The Woolf'
