Review by Yüksel Kuranoğlu

The album Baroque Venice by Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, The Monteverdi Choir, John Eliot Gardner is a stunning tribute to the music of 17th-century Venice. The album features works by some of the city's most celebrated composers, including Giovanni Gabrieli, Claudio Monteverdi, and Antonio Vivaldi, performed with passion and precision by the ensemble and choir.

The brass ensemble shines on tracks like Gabrieli's "Canzon duodecimi toni," with its intricate counterpoint and vibrant harmonies, and Vivaldi's "Concerto in D Major for Trumpet and Strings," which showcases the virtuosic playing of trumpeter Philip Jones. The Monteverdi Choir is equally impressive, bringing a rich, expressive sound to works like Monteverdi's "Laudate Dominum in Sanctis eius" and "Magnificat a 7 voci."
