Review by Gisell Peralta

Sululu Ya Moro Zima Moto, the latest album by Morogoro Jazz Band, is a delightful blend of traditional African rhythms and modern jazz elements. The band has been around for over five decades, and their experience and expertise shine through in this album.

The album features ten tracks, each with its unique flavor and style. From the upbeat and festive "Majuto Ya Mapenzi" to the soulful and emotive "Wewe Ni Mungu," the album takes the listener on a musical journey through the rich culture and heritage of Tanzania.

The instrumentation on the album is top-notch, with each instrument blending seamlessly with the others to create a harmonious and cohesive sound. The brass section, in particular, deserves special mention, as their solos and riffs add a touch of virtuosity to the album.

The vocals on the album are equally impressive, with the lead singer's voice soaring effortlessly over the music. The backup vocals, too, are excellent, adding depth and texture to the tracks.

About Morogoro Jazz Band

Tanzanian group from Morogoro also known as K.Z. Morogoro Jazz Band (K.Z. standing for Kuliko Zote, Swahili for "better than the others"). The band originally played live at the clubs and bars of Morogoro and became very popular in the 1960s and 1970s. The leader of the band was guitarist Mbaraka Mwinshehe, who dropped out of school to join the band in 1965. Coincidentally, the band was formed the same year Mwinsheshe was born, in 1944. The original lineup of the band featured Makala Kindamile, Joseph Thomas, Seif Ally, Daudi Ally and Shaabana Mwambe. , who would later found Cuban Marimba Band, was also an early member of the band. Mwinshehe left Morogoro Jazz Band in 1973 to found another very successful muziki wa dansi band, Super Volcano.

I guess Mbaraka was responding to his critics or provocation.I guess.
I was a very ardent fanatical adherent of Mwinshehes music in 70s.I could sing any Mbarakas music especially during his time with super volcano.I still enjoy his songs to-date and whenever I bump into his music I smile with nolstalgia.

Nostalgia, mais nada! Estas musicas fazem-me regressar à minha adolescencia. Escutem tanto na década 80, num receptor de familia conhecido "77".
