Mighty Joe Young - Why Baby

Review by Alison Kemp

Mighty Joe Young's album "Why Baby" is a blues fan's dream. Released in 1990, this album showcases the soulful voice and guitar skills of the late bluesman. The album is a mix of original songs and covers of classic blues tunes, all delivered with the raw emotion that characterizes the genre.

The album kicks off with "Asking Around for You," a slow-burning blues number that sets the tone for the rest of the album. Mighty Joe Young's guitar work is impeccable, and his voice drips with feeling. "She's Got a Way with Men" is another standout track, with its catchy chorus and upbeat tempo.

The album also features some impressive covers, including a rendition of the Muddy Waters classic "Hoochie Coochie Man." Mighty Joe Young's take on the song is faithful to the original, but he puts his own stamp on it with his electrifying guitar solos.
