Review by Jerry van Leeuwen

The album "Sonaten Für Flöte Und Cembalo" by Johann Sebastian Bach Paul Meisen Hedwig Bilgram is a stunning collection of baroque music that showcases the talents of two exceptional musicians. In this album, Bach's sonatas for flute and harpsichord are brought to life by the beautiful performances of flutist Paul Meisen and harpsichordist Hedwig Bilgram.

The album features six sonatas, each one a masterpiece of baroque music. The performances are technically precise and emotionally powerful, capturing the intricate melodies and harmonies of Bach's compositions. Meisen's flute playing is particularly impressive, with his tone and phrasing perfectly suited to the music. Bilgram's harpsichord playing is equally impressive, providing a rich and complex accompaniment to the flute.

One of the standout tracks on the album is Sonata in E flat Major, BWV 1031, which features some of Bach's most beautiful and intricate flute writing. Meisen's performance is breathtaking, with his flawless technique and nuanced interpretation bringing out the full beauty of the piece. Bilgram's harpsichord playing is equally impressive, providing a delicate and nuanced accompaniment that perfectly complements Meisen's playing.

About Johann Sebastian Bach Paul Meisen Hedwig Bilgram

Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 21, 1685 in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany. A prolific German composer and organist, his sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra and solo instruments drew together the strands of the baroque genre and brought it to its ultimate maturity. Although he introduced no new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, a control of harmonic and motivic organisation from the smallest to the largest scales, and the adaptation of rhythms and textures from abroad, particularly Italy and France. Many people consider him to be the greatest Baroque composer, and one of the greatest composers of all time. Revered for their intellectual depth, technical command and artistic beauty, J.S. Bach's works include the Brandenburg concertos, the keyboard suites and partitas, the Mass in B Minor, the St. Matthew Passion, The Musical Offering, The Art of Fugue and a large number of cantatas, of which about 220 survive. He died on July 28, 1750. Some of his sons also became composers - , , and .
