Review by Brandon Holtsclaw

Viola Da Tuba Three Gamba Sonata, a collaborative album by J S Bach, József Bazsinka, and Irina Ivanitskaia, is a truly remarkable piece of music. The album features three sonatas for viola da gamba, tuba, and harpsichord by J S Bach, as well as two contemporary works by Bazsinka and Ivanitskaia.

The musicianship on this album is outstanding. The viola da gamba playing by Bazsinka is sensitive and nuanced, while the tuba playing by Ivanitskaia is powerful and expressive. The harpsichord playing by Bach is masterful, and the three musicians work together seamlessly to create a cohesive and beautiful sound.

The three Bach sonatas are the highlight of the album. The first sonata in G major is a joyful and playful piece, while the second sonata in D major is more contemplative and introspective. The third sonata in G minor is a haunting and melancholic piece that showcases the emotional range of the viola da gamba.

The two contemporary works by Bazsinka and Ivanitskaia are also impressive. Bazsinka's Sonata for Viola da Gamba and Tuba is a lively and energetic piece that blends elements of classical and jazz music. Ivanitskaia's Sonata for Tuba and Harpsichord is a more experimental work that explores the sonic possibilities of the tuba.

About J S Bach, József Bazsinka, Irina Ivanitskaia

Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 21, 1685 in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany. A prolific German composer and organist, his sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra and solo instruments drew together the strands of the baroque genre and brought it to its ultimate maturity. Although he introduced no new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, a control of harmonic and motivic organisation from the smallest to the largest scales, and the adaptation of rhythms and textures from abroad, particularly Italy and France. Many people consider him to be the greatest Baroque composer, and one of the greatest composers of all time. Revered for their intellectual depth, technical command and artistic beauty, J.S. Bach's works include the Brandenburg concertos, the keyboard suites and partitas, the Mass in B Minor, the St. Matthew Passion, The Musical Offering, The Art of Fugue and a large number of cantatas, of which about 220 survive. He died on July 28, 1750. Some of his sons also became composers - , , and .
