Review by Amanda Bartlett

The Scottish Fantasy Concerto No 1 and Concerto No 5 album by Heifetz Bruch Vieuxtemps New Symphony Orchestra Of London, conducted by Sir Malcolm Sargent, is a stunning classical masterpiece that showcases the brilliance of these talented musicians. The album features two of the most iconic concertos of all time, which have been masterfully interpreted by the orchestra and soloist.

The album opens with the Scottish Fantasy Concerto No 1, which is a beautiful blend of traditional Scottish melodies and classical music. Heifetz's virtuosic performance on the violin is simply breathtaking, and the New Symphony Orchestra Of London's accompaniment is perfectly balanced and nuanced. The orchestra's interpretation of the Scottish folk tunes is especially noteworthy, as they capture the essence of the music and infuse it with their own unique style.

The second half of the album features the Concerto No 5, which is a more traditional concerto that highlights the technical prowess of the soloist. Heifetz's performance is flawless, as he effortlessly navigates the complex and challenging passages of the piece. The New Symphony Orchestra Of London's accompaniment is equally impressive, as they provide a solid foundation for the soloist to shine.

Russian (Lithuanian)-American violin virtuoso (Born February 2 , 1901, Vilna, Vilna Governate, Russian Empire (now Vilnius, Lithuania) - Died: December 10, 1987, Los Angeles, California, US). His name transliterates to Iosif Ruvimovich Kheyfets, conforming to Russian patronymic usage. The Kheyfets were Jewish, and Jascha was a common Yiddish diminutive for Joseph. The surname was anglicized Heifetz. His father, Reuven Heifetz, was a local violin teacher and served as the concertmaster of the Vilnius Theatre Orchestra for one season before the theatre closed down. Heifetz and his family left Russia in 1917, traveling by rail to the Russian far east and then by ship to the United States, arriving in San Francisco. He became a naturalized American citizen in 1924. Famous for his arrangement and making popular the tune Hora Staccato composed by Grigoraș Dinicu.
