Matthäus Passion Arien Arias by Bach Paul Esswood Nigel Rogers Max van Egmond Nikolaus Harnoncourt Concentus Musicus Wien is a magnificent classical music album that showcases the exceptional talents of some of the most renowned musicians in the world today. The album features a collection of arias and arien from Bach's Matthäus Passion, and is performed by a stellar ensemble of soloists, including Paul Esswood, Nigel Rogers, and Max van Egmond.

The album is conducted by the legendary Nikolaus Harnoncourt, who masterfully guides the Concentus Musicus Wien through the intricate and complex compositions of Bach. The result is a breathtakingly beautiful musical experience that is sure to leave listeners in awe.

The soloists are all exceptional in their own right, each bringing their own unique style and interpretation to the music. Paul Esswood's soaring countertenor voice is particularly impressive, adding a haunting quality to the music that is both moving and powerful. Nigel Rogers and Max van Egmond also deliver outstanding performances, their rich baritone and bass voices perfectly complementing the other soloists.

About Bach Paul Esswood Nigel Rogers Max van Egmond Nikolaus Harnoncourt Concentus Musicus Wien

Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 21, 1685 in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany. A prolific German composer and organist, his sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra and solo instruments drew together the strands of the baroque genre and brought it to its ultimate maturity. Although he introduced no new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, a control of harmonic and motivic organisation from the smallest to the largest scales, and the adaptation of rhythms and textures from abroad, particularly Italy and France. Many people consider him to be the greatest Baroque composer, and one of the greatest composers of all time. Revered for their intellectual depth, technical command and artistic beauty, J.S. Bach's works include the Brandenburg concertos, the keyboard suites and partitas, the Mass in B Minor, the St. Matthew Passion, The Musical Offering, The Art of Fugue and a large number of cantatas, of which about 220 survive. He died on July 28, 1750. Some of his sons also became composers - , , and .
