The Wolfgang Press - Scarecrow

Review by Baris Eris

The Wolfgang Press's album Scarecrow is a unique and experimental work of art that showcases the band's eclectic style and musical prowess. The album features a range of genres, including post-punk, alternative rock, and experimental music, which are blended together seamlessly to create a cohesive and dynamic sound.

The album's opening track, "Dig a Hole," sets the tone for the rest of the album with its haunting vocals and driving bassline. The second track, "King of Soul," is a standout with its catchy melody and infectious chorus. Other standout tracks include "Forty Days, Thirty Nights," which features a driving rhythm section and eerie synthesizers, and "Bottom Drawer," which showcases the band's ability to create a haunting atmosphere with minimal instrumentation.

One of the most impressive aspects of Scarecrow is the band's use of unconventional instruments and sounds. For example, "Birmingham" features a prominent banjo riff, while "A Girl Like You" incorporates a sampled trumpet melody.

The only band I got to interview in my short stent as a college radio disc jockey in 1985-ish in College Station, Texas. So cool. Had midnight breakfast afterwards at 24 Diner.
Elizabeth Fraser sings "just a little bit". Literally.
