Tananas' self-titled album is a unique blend of African rhythms, jazz, and rock. The South African trio, consisting of Steve Newman on guitar, Ian Herman on drums, and Gito Baloi on bass and vocals, created a sound that is both energetic and soothing. The album's opening track, "Malombo," sets the tone with its lively percussion and Newman's intricate guitar work. Baloi's soulful vocals shine on tracks like "Zabalaza" and "Mandela," which pays tribute to the late South African leader. About Tananas
South African band formed in 1987, broke up in 1993 but reunited occasionally since then.
The members of Tananas each had full work rosters in their own capacities, and by the mid 1990s it was only for occasional tours or projects that the trio came together.
