Notes

  • From the back cover:
  • Thank you Gary Margolis, Billy Meshel, Pete Drake and Chuck Gregory for making this recording possible with Paramount.
  • "Nashville is good for you. It's been good for so many people I've known. Many, unlike you, were already established in their own images and traditions, and had turned to Nashville's even more solid and emotive traditions for a breath of air. Your's is a new book. The traditions run all over you and your songs like cool water. Pete's playing is inspired and childlike, your own singing obviously spurred by other beautiful voices. Something good has happened, and I am pleased. And, as always, proud that you even care what I think. Love, and good luck from us all - Pete Townshend"

Was this recorded off a record? I'm trying to find ANY info on this song so I can track down a durable source. It seems to have a pressing from the 70s but I can't find much info about this guy online at all. Just heard it on KSHE classic show the other day and I adore it
He was so much better without all the trappings. I have a recording of him at the WBAI Free Music Store, and it was lovely - so intimate. Passed far too soon.
I remember a local band covering this song during talent show or Christmas show or something. I could have sworn it was close to '68 or '69. The music was so different than most of the pop on KXOK, and I don't remember hearing it on KSHE. At the time in the auditorium, I could close my eyes and picture a magician going through the story. I am sure this is the same song, although I could be wrong with 50 years gone by, but I always had it in the back of my mind trying to find it and what it was. It is surprising that even with a title and a singer's name, I can't find much of anything on it.
It kind of goes along with some 8-tracks I got from a guy in the early '70s. Home recorded, and so no artist/song information. Some were really good, others not so good, but I always wondered how the shot at fame of these people would go off and just disappear, being heard, but unknown.
To me it has some of the same elements as Rick Nelson & The Stone Canyon Bands "Windfall" album and Gorden Lightfoot from the same time period. But he stands firmly on his own merit. Well done.
Like it!
I can't thank you enough for this song. I listened to it in the early 80's and lost the original record. I asked many people including google for years and no one knew about it
Yeah bro, RIP to Jerry from Hawaii via St. Louis, Mo.

I've been looking for this song for years. I heard it on KSHE radio way back when, late 60's/early 70's. Always wondered who did it...stuck in my head for years...glad I found it again :)
So happy to find this! I have searched since the 70s, but could never find it because I didn't know who recorded it.
I'm biased because my name is also Steve Baron, but this is such a great song.
One great song I remember well from the 70's. There were some magical moments with the dew on the ground I'll never forget.
Baron was a one hit wonder....sadly.
I have always loved this song, can I buy it some where online?
Brilliant, thanks!
Miss you Jerry. Thank you for turning me on to all the music on the internet. I will forever grateful. I have so much music at my finger tips.....
Such an original tune!
I can't believe no one has covered this tune, seems like a natural for Steve White. No movie/television useage? Atmospheric, almost eerie.
Remember Steve and this song very very fondly. Great guy.
What a fucking genius.
To me this is the perfect song for Jerry. He worked a little magic for everyone he knew!
What a Great Tune! Nice Tribute Rick.
