Review by Curtis Delamarter

Tampico Southern Scandal is a jazz album by the renowned bandleader Stan Kenton and his orchestra. The album features a collection of tracks that showcase the band's exceptional musicianship and Kenton's unique arrangements.

The album begins with the title track, "Tampico," a lively and upbeat tune that sets the tone for the rest of the album. Other standout tracks include "Eager Beaver," a fast-paced swing number with a catchy melody, and "Painted Rhythm," a Latin-inspired piece with a vibrant percussion section.

Kenton's arrangements are complex and intricate, with layers of brass, woodwinds, and percussion weaving together to create a rich and dynamic sound. The musicians in the orchestra are all top-notch, with standout performances from saxophonist Art Pepper and trumpeter Maynard Ferguson.

Oh, it's a soundie? That's why they look like complete idiots!
Recorded 22 September 1945 (audio) and 24 September 1945 (filming). Six titles were recorded in New York City on those two days for Filmcraft Productions: It's Been a Long, Long Time,  I'm Gonna Love That Guy, Tampico, Eager Beaver, Southern Scandal, and I'm Homesick, That's All. The melody was a spoof on "Tara's Theme" from "Gone With the Wind" (hence the title).
i like this very much
Anybody know the full personnel on this?
Lifted from
Gone With The Wind!
this is soooo smooth...
@Tony Gleeson: i think its 1941-1942 Personel if you need info give an invoice
Good one! One critic from Metronome magazine famously said "Every Kenton record I've ever heard sounded like Stan signed 300 men for the date and they all showed up on time."
Fantastic what a band, Early Capitol prime biscuit from legendary ground breaking
group..If you like this, chk the later hi-fi redo of his 40's standards in arrangements true to originals with some more pop and flash provided by improved recording techniques
Damn! I never knew Stan made soundies. There are more - I'm gonna enjoy the next few minutes...
Kenton, as far as I know, was the first bandleader to add a bass trombone (Bart Varsalona, later George "Mr. Bass Trombone" Roberts) to a big-band trombone section.
