Review by Samantha Davidson

The album "Was It Only Yesterday" by Settlers is a collection of ten tracks that take the listener on a journey through different emotions and experiences. The band's unique blend of indie and folk music creates a sound that is both familiar and distinct.

The album opens with "Wandering," a track that sets the tone for the rest of the album with its melancholic melody and introspective lyrics. "Easier Said" and "Fading" are two other standout tracks that showcase the band's ability to create memorable melodies and lyrics that resonate with listeners.

The album also features several tracks that are more upbeat and energetic, such as "Runaway" and "Take Me Back." These tracks provide a nice contrast to the more introspective songs on the album and showcase the band's versatility.

About The Settlers

The Settlers started out in the 60s, their first release in 1964. They were a trio for their initial albums, mixing contemporary folk covers (Dylan, etc) with folk/bluegrass. By 1969 they'd added a bass player, Geoff, who lived in the same house as Tony Hooper in Hampstead that inspired the Strawbs song "Pieces of 79 and 15". The Settlers used to perform several tracks by the Strawbs, including "Always On My Mind" and "You Keep Going Your Way". On their largely-religious 1972 LP for Myrrh Records, released by arrangement with the BBC, The Settlers covered The Cousins' anthem to Luther King "Sing A New Song
