Review by Elsa Lolita

Rings of Saturn, the American technical deathcore band, released their third studio album, Lugal Ki En, in 2014. The album, which features ten tracks, is a masterpiece of technical musicianship and crushing brutality.

The album opens with "Senseless Massacre," a track that sets the tone for the rest of the album. The song features blistering guitar riffs, intense drumming, and guttural vocals, which are hallmarks of the Rings of Saturn sound.

The album then moves into "Desolate Paradise," a track that showcases the band's ability to seamlessly blend technicality and melody. The song features soaring guitar leads and intricate drum patterns that are sure to impress even the most discerning metal fan.

The title track, "Lugal Ki En," is a standout on the album. The song features a haunting intro that leads into a punishing assault of blast beats and crushing breakdowns. The track also features a guest appearance from Lucas Mann of Veil of Maya, who adds an extra layer of technicality to the already impressive song.

Summary by Elsa Lolita

Lugal Ki En is a must-listen for any fan of technical deathcore. The album is a masterclass in musicianship and brutality, and Rings of Saturn have once again proven that they are one of the most innovative and exciting bands in the genre.

Comments

The project's 2014 album, Lugal Ki En, features more Post-Rock/Fusion guitar leads akin to Allan Holdsworth and company among the blast-beat onslaught, which result in the lone traces of esoteric melody among the whole album. The breakdowns are reinforced by the use of nine and ten-string Legator guitars, "Infused" features guest leads by Rusty Cooley, and the whole album features chug/stoppato breakdowns that, while hardly melodic, surely sound driving and accompany the leads well. The closing instrumental even features suspended acoustic picking.Highlights: "Natural Selection", "Eviscerate".
