Review by Abe Delgado

Panis Angelicus Élégie is a stunning album by American tenor Richard Crooks. This album, released in 1946, showcases Crooks' powerful yet delicate voice in a collection of beautiful and emotional pieces.

The album begins with the titular track, "Panis Angelicus," a hymn composed by César Franck. Crooks' rendition of this piece is truly breathtaking, with his voice soaring effortlessly over the orchestration. The album also features a number of other religious pieces, including "Ave Maria" and "The Lord's Prayer," which Crooks performs with great reverence and sincerity.

In addition to the religious pieces, Panis Angelicus Élégie also includes a number of romantic and melancholic songs, such as "None But the Lonely Heart" and "O Promise Me." Crooks' emotive voice is perfectly suited to these pieces, conveying a sense of deep longing and yearning.

Who can sing holy like Richard Crooks our Richard Great singing Great Singer Immortal Voice
A wonderful performance and one of his finest recordings.
Great! Great sound and great music! Richard Crooks should sound just like this!
"Gross" recording. Surely it could have and should have been digitized or "cleaned up" some how. Esp.
with "techno" that is available today.
Crooks was obviously in top form when he recorded it. Damn shame.
I have a recording of him singing this in English. JCT also performed it several times on radio with exquisite latinity "panees" "figyooris"
Simply SPLENDID singing that is non-existent today. Spontaneity, Squillo and "effortless" delivery as demonstrated by Crooks, is representative of the Golden Era of Singing, no longer heard since then.
Marvellously sung. Lousy recording, though.
this is remarkable
petje af voor Richard Crooks
This is absolutely beautiful!  Crooks was just wonderful in music like this.  One of the finest American tenors, often seriously under-rated, unfortunately.
