REO Speedwagon - REO Speedwagon

Review by Rob Jackson

The album REO Speedwagon by the band of the same name is a classic rock masterpiece that has stood the test of time. Released in 1971, the album features some of the band's most iconic hits, including "Ridin' the Storm Out" and "157 Riverside Avenue."

The album opens with the hard-hitting "Gypsy Woman's Passion," which sets the tone for the rest of the album. The band's signature sound, characterized by Gary Richrath's soaring guitar riffs and Kevin Cronin's powerful vocals, is on full display throughout the album.

Other standout tracks include "Golden Country," a haunting ballad that showcases the band's more introspective side, and "Son of a Poor Man," a rollicking tune that features some of Richrath's most impressive guitar work.

Rock band from Champaign, Illinois, USA. They named the band , from the REO Speed Wagon, a 1915 truck that was designed by Ransom Eli Olds. Doughty had seen the name written across the blackboard when he walked into his History of Transportation class on the very first day they had decided to look for a name. Rather than pronouncing REO as a single word as the motor company did, they chose to spell out the name with the individual letters each pronounced ("R-E-O"). Formed in 1967, the band cultivated a following during the 1970s and achieved significant commercial success throughout the 1980s. (1980) contained four US Top 40 hits and is the group's best-selling album, with over ten million copies sold.

In my opinion their best album! The rest is not anywhere near. That goes especially for their late '70's and early 80's "blockbusters" that I find mildly boring.Best songs: "Gypsy Womans Passion", "157 Riverside Avenue", "Anti-Establishment Man" and "Sophisticated Lady"
Gary Richrath was a Monster player!
He just absolutely touched your soul with his tone and solo work that remains unsurpassed in its quality. THANK YOU GARY!
Most songs are really good but yeah maybe vastly underrated I also put Neil Gerardo there too
Oh my God i love this one! So much better than the ones they play over and over on the radio!
Probably one of my all time favorite REO songs!!!!!
LOVE THIS SONG....GREETINGS FOR ARGENTINA
Love this
This song just kicks fucking ass, really , just listen to the way the lead solos cheap up your ass toataly awesome rip Gary you will forever be my guitar hero but now the Lord has you there in heaven playing for him , he so lucky
ya ever hear her in a dream
Beautiful sound quality. Thank you.
may not wanna wake up that force round me hungary, who's going to the race
Can't get enough of this album, maybe if the disco shit wasn't so popular at the time this music could have been put out there a little bit more. Not dissing the bee gees cause they where very talented also, just saying. Listen to those guitar solos, simply awesome
Just love the way the first lead solo of the song crawls up your spine and the second lead solo at the end of the song just makes ya feel like you've made it to the top of the mountian. God I love this tune, thanks Gary for all the positive energy you have giving me through out my life. Thank you God for sending us such talent
The album is great, love this song
This is Definitly in my top 3 favorite Richrath tunes, does anyone know if there's a live recording or video of this song out there anywhere?
by far, the BEST REO album

RIP Gary Richrath!!
Had the pleasure to see REO 4 times throughout the 80s in Colorado either in Boulder or Denver; the concerts were called "sunday #1, sunday #2 ect....anyway, loved the band but I do believe like many Nine Lives was last good studio album.  The live REO (forgot the name) wore that 8 track out in the day! LOL
RandomSpew, you're full of shit. I was with the band on that tour. It was not the best place to be, but that certainly didn't happen. I was on security and would have beaten down any such people. Go spew your crap somewhere else.
Great song! I remember my uncle giving me this used album of his in 1980. I always enjoyed the Nine Lives album. I just played it this week in my car.
