Review by Troche

La Gioconda Complete is an exceptional album that showcases the unparalleled talent of Ponchielli, Zinka Milanov, Giuseppe di Stefano, Leonard Warren, Rosalind Elias, and the Orchestra and Chorus of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, Rome, under the direction of Fernando Previtali. This album is a must-have for fans of opera and classical music.

The album features a stunning performance of Ponchielli's La Gioconda, a four-act opera that tells the story of a woman who is forced to choose between the man she loves and her duty to her family. Milanov's performance as Gioconda is breathtaking, and she is perfectly matched by the powerful tenor of di Stefano as Enzo, the man she loves. Warren's portrayal of Barnaba, the villain of the piece, is equally impressive, and Elias brings a touching vulnerability to the role of Laura.

The Orchestra and Chorus of the Accademia di Santa Cecilia, Rome, provide a flawless musical accompaniment to the singers, and Previtali's direction ensures that the opera is performed with the utmost sensitivity and nuance.
