Mark Egan - Mosaic

Review by Heidi Schuerger

Mosaic, the latest album by Mark Egan, is a true masterpiece of contemporary jazz. The album features a collection of 10 tracks that showcase Egan's incredible talent as a bassist, composer, and bandleader. From start to finish, Mosaic is a journey through a range of musical styles, from the funky and groovy "As We Speak" to the contemplative and melodic "All The Things You Are."

Egan's bass playing is the heart and soul of the album, with his virtuosic and inventive solos weaving in and out of the arrangements. The rest of the band, including drummer Danny Gottlieb, saxophonist Bill Evans, and guitarist John Abercrombie, are equally impressive, each bringing their own unique voice to the music.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Mosaic," a dynamic and complex composition that showcases the band's incredible musicianship. The track builds and evolves, with each member of the band contributing to the overall sound and feel of the piece. Another highlight is "Bali," a beautiful and ethereal ballad that features Egan's melodic bass lines and Evans' haunting saxophone.
