Review by Jeremy Wolford

Louis Armstrong's Complete New York Town Hall Boston Symphony Hall Concerts is a magnificent compilation of live performances by one of the greatest jazz musicians of all time. This album, released in 1997, features recordings from two concerts that took place in 1947 and 1956, respectively.

The first concert, recorded at New York's Town Hall on May 17, 1947, captures Armstrong at the height of his powers. His trumpet playing is nothing short of breathtaking, and his vocals are infused with a joy and energy that is infectious. The highlight of the concert is undoubtedly Armstrong's rendition of "West End Blues," which is widely regarded as one of his greatest performances ever.

The second concert, recorded at Boston's Symphony Hall on October 31, 1956, is equally impressive. By this time, Armstrong had become a true icon of jazz, and his performances are full of the wisdom and experience that comes with years of playing. The concert features a mix of old favorites and new material, including an outstanding rendition of "Mack the Knife."
