Review by firas tistus

Johnny (Guitar) Watson's album Sweet Lovin Mama is a masterpiece of blues and soul music. With his signature guitar playing and soulful vocals, Watson delivers a collection of songs that are both groovy and heartfelt.

The album opens with the upbeat and funky "Sweet Lovin Mama," which sets the tone for the rest of the record. Watson's guitar playing is on full display on tracks like "I Got Eyes" and "I Love to Love You," where he effortlessly blends blues, jazz, and funk.

Watson also shows his softer side on ballads like "Lonely Girl" and "I'll Never Leave You," where his soulful voice shines through. The album closes with a powerful rendition of the classic blues song "Stormy Monday," which Watson makes his own with his unique guitar playing and emotional delivery.

Watson learned the rudiments of music on the piano as a child. He took up the guitar on the agreement with his preacher grandfather that he would not use it to 'play the blues'.
