Review by D.Ookami

The album Concerti Vol II BWV 1052 BWV 1055 BWV 1056 by Johann Sebastian Bach, performed by Alice Harnoncourt, Jürg Schaeftlein, and Nikolaus Harnoncourt, is a masterful collection of concertos that showcases the composer's incredible talent. The musicians' performances are precise and emotive, bringing out the nuances and complexities of each piece.

The album features three concertos, each of which is a stunning example of Bach's genius. The first concerto, BWV 1052, is a bold and dramatic work that showcases the virtuosity of the soloist. Harnoncourt's performance is powerful and commanding, while Schaeftlein and Harnoncourt provide a solid foundation with their accompaniment.

The second concerto, BWV 1055, is a more subdued work that features a delicate and intricate interplay between the soloist and the orchestra. Harnoncourt's performance is nuanced and sensitive, and Schaeftlein and Harnoncourt provide a subtle and supportive accompaniment.

The third concerto, BWV 1056, is a lyrical and melodic work that showcases Bach's gift for melody. Harnoncourt's performance is gentle and evocative, and Schaeftlein and Harnoncourt provide a rich and warm accompaniment.

About Johann Sebastian Bach Alice Harnoncourt, Jürg Schaeftlein, Nikolaus Harnoncourt

Johann Sebastian Bach was born on March 21, 1685 in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany. A prolific German composer and organist, his sacred and secular works for choir, orchestra and solo instruments drew together the strands of the baroque genre and brought it to its ultimate maturity. Although he introduced no new forms, he enriched the prevailing German style with a robust contrapuntal technique, a control of harmonic and motivic organisation from the smallest to the largest scales, and the adaptation of rhythms and textures from abroad, particularly Italy and France. Many people consider him to be the greatest Baroque composer, and one of the greatest composers of all time. Revered for their intellectual depth, technical command and artistic beauty, J.S. Bach's works include the Brandenburg concertos, the keyboard suites and partitas, the Mass in B Minor, the St. Matthew Passion, The Musical Offering, The Art of Fugue and a large number of cantatas, of which about 220 survive. He died on July 28, 1750. Some of his sons also became composers - , , and .
