Review by Angie Gabriela Loayza Velezmoro

Hendrickson Road House’s self-titled debut album is a refreshing take on the classic blues rock sound. The band’s tight instrumentation and soulful vocals make for a truly enjoyable listening experience.

From the opening track “Let It Roll” to the closing song “Gone Too Long,” Hendrickson Road House showcases their ability to craft catchy, guitar-driven tunes that are sure to get listeners’ feet tapping. The album’s standout track, “Feelin’ Fine,” features a groovy bass line and a memorable chorus that will stick in your head long after the song ends.

The band’s musicianship is on full display throughout the album, with each member contributing to the overall sound. Guitarist/vocalist David Hendrickson’s bluesy riffs and solos are a highlight, while drummer Steve Smith and bassist Matt Moulton provide a solid rhythm section.

Notes

  • Recorded to showcase the prodigious talents of teenage singer/songwriter Sue Eakins, the Hendrickson Road House album was issued in December 1970 as a limited edition pressing by the Ojai, CA, based Two:Dot studio/label (HRH 81670) and remains one of the rarest vinyl artefacts to emerge from the late ‘60s West Coast psychedelic folk genre and and Californian counterculture.
  • Available for the first time in more than forty years, this authorised reissue adds half-a-dozen bonus tracks:
  • Tracks 13 and 14 are alternative mixes of two of the album’s songs, which had originally been released circa September 1970 as a 7" single (HRH 22670) that was credited to Nibbus (a name the group briefly considered before settling on Hendrickson Road House).
  • Tracks 15, 16 and 18 are previously unreleased acetates, recorded 1969.
  • Track 17 is a live recording from 1971.
  • The 12-page booklet includes photos, interview quotes and the full Hendrickson Road House story.
  • Issued under license from Sue Randall.
  • Comes with an insert.
