Ghetto Boys - No Sell Out

Review by Keeley Wilmington

No Sell Out is the fifth studio album by legendary hip-hop group Ghetto Boys. The album was released in 1994 and is considered a classic in the hip-hop genre. The album features the original members of the group - Scarface, Willie D, and Bushwick Bill - and was produced by the iconic DJ Ready Red.

The album is a departure from the group's previous work, as it delves into more socially conscious themes. The opening track, "Still," is a poignant commentary on the state of black America and the struggles faced by the urban poor. The track "The World Is a Ghetto" explores the violence and poverty that plagues urban neighborhoods, while "Do It Like a G.O." is a call to action for young people to take control of their lives and make positive changes.

No Sell Out also features some of the group's trademark hardcore tracks, such as "Straight Gangstaism" and "Street Life." The album's standout track, however, is "Mind Playing Tricks on Me," a hauntingly introspective song that explores the psychological effects of living in a violent and dangerous environment.

Big Daddy Scarface
Back in 89 Big Daddy Kane was one of the hottest MC's so it doesnt surprise me that a rapper like Akshen would emulate his style. It still takes a level if skill to come up with your own rhyme and deliver it in the same cadence as Kane because like he said it himself, "Ain't No Half-Steppin'" and DJ Akshen did not half step in his raps. He just gave the people what they wanted. I think that's why I gravitated to this album. I was a big Public Enemy fam at that time and they had a whole song tribute to them using a very similar production to the Bomb Squad. I would not surprised if Bushwick played a big part in their creative style since he was the only member that was from NYC.
This is still my favorite song by DJ Action, No Cussin & Rippin the rhyme ??????????
