Review by Monique Dongelmans

The Ghent Folk Violin Project has released their latest album, LIQA, which showcases their unique blend of traditional folk music and modern composition. The album features a range of instruments, including violin, guitar, and accordion, and incorporates influences from various cultures.

The opening track, "Awe," sets the tone for the album with its haunting melody and intricate violin work. The following tracks are equally impressive, with highlights including "Dawn," which features a beautiful guitar solo, and "Mystic," which showcases the accordion's versatility.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "LIQA," which features a guest vocalist and incorporates elements of Middle Eastern music. The song is a testament to the group's ability to seamlessly blend different styles and create something truly unique.

About Ghent Folk Violin Project

A project from Ghent, Belgium conducted by Wouter Vandenabeele. A mixture of Folk, Classical, World music and Jazz. Started in 2012 by violinist/composer Wouter Vandenabeele. Each violin player contributes with their own style: Lotte Remmen with a beautiful classical tone, Naomi Vercauteren with a great folk swing and the jazz experience of Anouk Sanczuk. Wouter blends these sounds together with his own style that leans against these three. Singer Hanneke Oosterlijnck catches the attention with beautiful interpretations of old texts. The whole group is supported by the skilful guitar playing of Jeroen Knapen. In 2015: Jasmijn Lootens, Cello and Susan Clynes, piano and singing.
