I am truly glad to hear the responses on this thread, Gene has always been a star starting in the late '50 I would play his songs with the Dukays at rent parties. The time serving his country other artists grabbed the national spotlight but with the help of Curtis Mayfield and other writers, he get some notice. There is only a handful of artists who at the time could crossover and still make it over the decades of the sixties to eighties with sold songs that people enjoyed. This was one that unless the DJ didn't know the artist would never get any play. thanks for giving Gene "The Duke" a chance. Peace!
