Review by Karsten Reisdorf

De Zee En Haar Oevers is a remarkable album by Dirk Van Esbroeck, a Belgian folk singer and musician. The album, which was released in 1996, is a beautiful tribute to the sea and its shores. The songs are a mix of traditional sea shanties and original compositions by Van Esbroeck, all sung in Dutch.

The album opens with the hauntingly beautiful "De Zee", a traditional Dutch song that sets the tone for the rest of the album. Van Esbroeck's voice is deep and rich, perfectly suited to the songs of the sea. He is accompanied by a variety of instruments, including accordion, guitar, and violin, all played with skill and sensitivity.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "De Vissers Van Capri", a song about the fishermen of the Italian island of Capri. The melody is catchy and upbeat, and Van Esbroeck's voice is full of emotion as he sings about the hardships and joys of life at sea.

Another highlight is "Het Lied Van De Schelde", an original composition by Van Esbroeck. The song is a tribute to the Scheldt River, which flows through Belgium and the Netherlands. The melody is simple but beautiful, and Van Esbroeck's voice is particularly moving as he sings about the river and its importance to the people who live along its banks.
