Review by Simon Milton-Jones

Brewer & Shipley's album Tarkio is a timeless classic that stands the test of time. With its blend of folk, rock, and country influences, the duo showcases their musical versatility and songwriting prowess. The album's standout tracks include the hit single "One Toke Over the Line," a catchy tune with a memorable chorus that became a cultural phenomenon in the 1970s. Other notable tracks include "Tarkio Road," a reflective ballad that showcases the duo's harmonies, and "Oh, Mommy," a playful and upbeat track that captures the carefree spirit of the era. Tarkio is a must-listen for fans of classic rock and folk music, and a testament to Brewer & Shipley's enduring legacy as talented musicians and songwriters.

They did some concerts in the park here , early 70s
I loved this album in the early 70’s. Every song is great!
Great tune...great album...great music ???
RAYTOWN
born in kc i had to make a special trip to tarkio because of this song and skidmore missouri because of the
60 minutes story on the skidmore bully from the mid 80s. i had to throw that in
Whatever happened to 'Ballad of a Country Dog?
Jesus I’m twenty again!!!
This tune stands out from an otherwise lack luster run of the mill 70's singer songwriter duo
Only wish lead guitar volume was mixed better/LOUDER..otherwise boss
i always loved the album cover. tell me them bruthas ain't baked!
These guys were really good. Tarkio Road was so timely. 2020 and it still resonates .
SKO’DOANE
Where is Tarkio road and why are they singing about it? Ive listened to this song for 40 years but dont know the back story.
One of the most American songs of my lifetime.
My room mates dragged me to this show in a seedy part of Wash. DC they even bought my ticket ( might have something to do with I had the only reliable car at the time). Needless to say with a little herbal and chemical assistance I was completely astounded by the sound that just two guys could produce, and of course the music consumed my soul!
One of my favorite songs from 4th grade.
I drove US 59 many times traveling to and from college near Kansas City. I 29 wasn't yet done and 59 was the best alternative. I remember going past Tarkio often.
I can't hear well, so I thought they sang, where the children disrespect you, and the people reject you, oh tarkeo road it's such a mother its like so many others where the children disrespect you and the people reject you. Oh, well! Chow.
Have not heard that song in awhile , 1966 mustang with a 8-track player I installed myself. Craig stereo I think Ferguson, mo.
Bob sent me
what in the world ever became of Sweet Jane?
nixon wanted to lock them up for being dangerous!
Small town didn't dig them hippies back then clean cut like Muskogee Oklahoma checking in the truck under the hood hoping to find the secret places where you hide your mind
Brilliant. One of the great protest songs of this era and genre. And it is really a beautiful song to boot. Love B & S. Rock on Dudes.
Is that Mark Naftalin on the really great piano? Or is it Jerry Garcia??
