Billie Holiday - Volume 2 Lady Day

Review by Craig-Lee Holt

"Volume 2 Lady Day" by Billie Holiday is a timeless classic that showcases the jazz legend's impeccable vocal abilities. The album features a collection of some of Holiday's most beloved tracks, including "Lover Man," "God Bless the Child," and "Don't Explain," among others.

Holiday's signature style and soulful delivery are on full display throughout the album, transporting listeners to a bygone era of jazz and blues. Her emotive performances are complemented by the expert musicianship of the backing band, which includes the likes of Charlie Shavers, Benny Carter, and Flip Phillips.

One standout track is "Good Morning Heartache," which sees Holiday pouring her heart out in a melancholic ballad that is sure to tug at the heartstrings of even the most stoic listener. Another highlight is "Strange Fruit," a haunting protest song that addresses the issue of racism and discrimination in America.
