Back - BACK and Forth

Review by Collins Hinamundi

The album BACK and Forth by Back has received critical acclaim for its unique blend of rock, funk, and soul. The band's innovative sound is a result of their use of synthesizers, drum machines, and live instrumentation to create a dynamic and energetic sound. The album's standout tracks include "Get Up," "Funky Love," and "Back and Forth," which showcase the band's ability to seamlessly blend different genres together. The lyrics are also a highlight of the album, with themes of love, self-discovery, and perseverance. BACK and Forth is a must-listen for fans of experimental rock and funk music.

Notes

  • A few notes on “Back … and Forth”
  • I am ever so grateful for the wonderful musicians who participated on this record.
  • First and foremost, “the Band”: Mattias Lagerqvist, Mats Arnell and Marcus Berggren. And, of course, a special thanks for the contributions of two highly accomplished musicians: Peter Edgren, harmonica on Free at Last and Lennart Hessel, mandola on Abdication.
  • These songs (and a couple of more which never made it) were recorded in Uppsala (P. G.), Västerås (Mats) and Örebro (Mattias & Marcus). The recordings were sent “back and forth” between us from early November 2018 until May 2019. When I sing “it should be winter, but it has rained all day”, in Abdication, that was quite literally the case outside my window in late November.
  • My aim for this project was to make an entire album, listenable from start to finish. An album where songs flow into each other seamlessly. When I was growing up, I can recall the joy of coming home with a brand new record, smelling the vinyl, pouring over the artwork, fliping the cover over and over in my hands and systematically, with eyes and ears wide open, taking in the complete piece of art, dreaming.
  • Thanks also to Mikael Gottberg for his great mixing and to
  • Lawrence Macrory who delicately and professionally did the
  • master.
  • And now… the beginning of an interesting, exciting future releasing it out into the world!
  • Sincerely
  • /P. G.
